How to Create A new Folder on Windows – Windows 7/8/10/11

In this article, I will show you how you can create a new folder in Windows 7,8,10 or even 11. Creating folders in Windows is a really good way of organizing your files on your PC or laptop. This ensures that your PC is needed and tidy. You can always put your files in these folders in a way that will make you easily access any files or document you want. Imagine having very many documents just scattered on your drive, or where they are located, and you need to find a specific document or file, it will take you longer to find, unlike if you had them arranged.

How To Create a New Folder On windows?

To create a new folder on windows 7/8/10 or 11;

  1. Select the place you want to create the new folder. For example, if you want to create one on your windows desktop, head over to your desktop. If you want to create it on you D: drive, then head over there.
  2. Using your mouse or laptop touchpad, right click to reveal options.
  3. On these options, look for new, and place your cursor on it without clicking it. This will reveal more options under this new section.
  4. Click on folder, which is usually the first option under the New option.
  5. You will now see a new folder at that point, which will have a blue highlighted text “New Folder”.
  6. You can change this name by either typing your desired name for the folder or just leaving it as it is.
  7. Now just hit enter, or click anywhere else on the window to complete the creating the new folder on windows.

How to Arrange Files into Folders To Make It Look Neat

Now that you know how you can create a new folder on windows, let me show you how you can now move files into the new folder and how you can use this to make your files on windows look more organized. To move files into your new folder;

Method One – Using copy & Paste or Cut & Paste to move files into folders on windows

Remember that copy means making a copy of the file and cut means removing the file from the location so that you can move it to another place by pasting it.

  1. Locate the file or document you want to move. And yes, you can even move other folders into other folders if you want.
  2. Select the folder by left clicking on it once. Then right click and select either copy, or cut.
  3. Then double click on the folder you want to move these files into to open it, and then right click anywhere in the new folder and select paste to move the files.
  4. Done, you have successfully moved files into your new folder.

Method 2 – Using Drag & Drop to move files into folders on windows

Drag and drop is the easiest way to move a file into a folder. To do this locate the file you want to move. Left click on it and don’t leg go of the click. Now move your mouse and you will notice the file moves with your cursor. Move the cursor over to the folder, and when you reach it, you will see a highlight telling you move file to folder. To move it to the folder, just let go of the left click button of the mouse or your laptop touch pad and the file will be moved.
