KUCO: Posting Of interns To Commence on 16th

The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers has today posted that clinical officers interns will start receiving their Internship posting letter from 16th June 2023. They said this through their Facebook Page today mentioning that the internship posting process will commence on 16th June and the clinicians will report to their internship centres from 1st July 2023.

This comes after the union, through their social media channels announced on 6th May that the Ministry of Health had promised to start posting clinical officers interns from the second week of the month of May. this did not happen and the questions were being asked on their Facebook pages.

What About Other Clinical Officers Interns?

Today’s announcement comes after the Clinical Officers Union held a meeting with the PS of Public Health and Standards, who promised that intern posting will begin on the 16th of June. The interns will be required to report to their internship centres by 1st July 2023. The PS also promised the Union that the Ministry of Health would try its best to ensure the remaining 780 interns who did their internship exams on May 2023 and passed will be among those posted on 16th June.

Clinical Officer interns who did their board exams in September last year have not been posted since last year. This has demoralised these clinicians because they can’t practise without a valid license from the Clinical Officer’s Council, which is given only after an internship.

This news will be a moral booster to the many interns who have been waiting patiently since last year for their internship postings. If this comes true, kudos to KUCO for the excellent work and let us hope that future interns will be going for their internship experience after their COC board exams as soon as possible. Also, it would be a greater deal if the union continue to also fight for Clinical officers under UHC to ensure that they as taken in as permanent workers by the Government.
